Tottenham Hotspur Women v Manchester City Women: Preview, Team News and Prediction

Manchester City Women travel to North London on Friday night, eager to get their first away victory of the season under their belt as they take on Spurs at Brisbane Road.

The Blues got their first win under new manager Andree Jeglertz last weekend when they came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 at the Joie Stadium. Spurs, however, have won their opening two fixtures, beating West Ham on the opening day, then recording a 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.

It’s a 100% record that they share with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, but Spurs are yet to concede a goal so far this season.

They will face the might of City’s attack which includes Bunny Shaw, Vivianne Miedema and Lauren Hemp, as well as the threat faced from midfield in the form of Yui Hasegawa, in addition to Swiss star Iman Beney, who is awaiting her first goal in City colours.

City have won one and lost one so far this season, after suffering an opening day defeat at Chelsea and victory on Friday evening could put the Blues above their opponents.

In March, Aoba Fujino’s 78th-minute goal secured a 2-1 win at Brisbane Road. That Japanese star had already provided an assist for Miedema to open the scoring in the 11th minute, but Beth England had levelled for Spurs on 32 minutes.

Spurs will be without Luana Buhler and Ella Morris who are out with long-term injuries, while manager Martin Ho will be hoping to call on Molly Bartrip and Ashleigh Neville, who both missed last week’s victory at Everton.

City are unlikely to call up Grace Clinton, who returned to training this week. The former United star has yet to feature for City since making the move to Manchester. Sydney Lohmann may also miss the match on Friday due to injury, having already missed the win against Brighton.

Prediction

Spurs may have a 100% record, but I think that will end on Friday evening. The Blues were impressive in their comeback win against Brighton and I think they will have too much for the home side>

Spurs 1-3 City
