Colorado's new Ralphie mascot to make its debut ahead of Wyoming game

Ralphie is back at Colorado football games this weekend.

The school announced Friday that Ralphie VII would make her first run ahead of Saturday night’s game vs. Wyoming.

Ralphie VI retired before the season after four years as the school’s mascot. Ralphie IV, whose nickname is Ember, had an “indifference to running” according to the school. Colorado said in August that “it was determined that it was in Ember’s best interest, based on her disposition, to focus on relaxing strolls on the pasture, which is her favorite hobby.

Ralphie VI had served as the school's mascot since 2020.

In contrast with Ralphie VI, Colorado said that 1-year-old Ralphie VII “is definitely not indifferent to running." That’s probably a plus when one of your primary mascot duties is to run on the field before football games.

"Ralphie's run is iconic and our fans, students, faculty, staff, and alumni take an incredible amount of pride in this tradition which transcends sports," Ralphie mascot program director Taylor Stratton said in a statement. "We're excited to be adding a new Ralphie to the lineage of incredible buffalo that have represented the University of Colorado and have elevated the fans' passion for our student-athletes."
