Bad Take Tuesday: Arch Manning’s WRs Will Share the Spotlight

One theme of Fall Camp has been how many different names Steve Sarkisian keeps mentioning as potential weapons for Arch Manning. The Longhorns’ new quarterback is going to have a lot of tools in his arsenal—so many, in fact, that a different pass catcher will lead every statistical category.

Welcome to another Bad Take Tuesday.

This take probably rules out the idea of one Longhorn wide receiver commanding such a lion’s share of Manning’s attention that they end up in the Biletnikoff Award conversation. But it does ensure defenses will have to cover every square inch of the field against Texas. Add Manning’s wheels, plus a healthy running back room, and the potential offense is the stuff of Longhorn fans’ daydreams.

What would a “stats-by-committee” room look like? Something like this:

Receptions – DeAndre Moore Jr. (75)

Yards – Ryan Wingo (1,355)

Touchdown receptions – Jack Endries (13)

Yards per catch – Parker Livingstone (18.5)

And that’s before considering other factors that will take away from the above quartet’s numbers. Sarkisian’s obsession with making it a long season, a September slate full of creampuffs (with plenty of garbage time), and a wave of young receivers who are hard to keep off the field all make this scenario even more likely. Daylan McCutcheon, Kaliq Lockett, and Ryan Niblett have each drawn praise from Sark in recent availabilities. We also don’t know how Stanford transfer Emmett Mosley V will contribute, as well as the other tight ends like Jordan Washington.

It’s a room full of potential and excitement—and nobody should be more thrilled about it than Arch Manning himself.
