Walmart’s $40 men’s barn jacket rivals popular Barbour styles that cost 10x more

Jackets and coats are fall fashion mainstays, but this season, one style reigns supreme: The barn jacket. Originally worn by farmhands, the rugged layer has gone mainstream for an easygoing look you can wear anywhere. It's a staple item in British countrycore, a fashion aesthetic that essentially gives the impression that you're a horse-riding, pheasant-hunting, off-duty royal — think David Beckham at his home in the Cotswolds or Kate Middleton on a trip to Manor Farm. You get the point! It's the countrified version of old-money style.

However, the most popular spot to get a barn jacket has to be from Barbour. Any of its water-resistant wax jackets will last you a lifetime, but the price reflects that. Its signature Ashby Waxed Coat usually goes for $398, but some other styles can cost upward of $700! And that's why we're so excited to have found an affordable alternative at Walmart.

The Free Assembly Canvas Barn Jacket is a midweight canvas style with a 100% cotton flannel lining for added warmth. It also has a stylish corduroy collar, zipper front with snap plackets, snap cuffs at the sleeves and four pockets, including one on the chest and one interior. It's machine washable too, so if you do decide to do any manual labor in this thing, you can easily clean it.

Admittedly, Walmart shoppers have been a little quiet about this one. There's only one written review, and the person states that it was just what they were looking for (not super helpful). However, nine out of 10 people have also given it a five-star rating on the retailer's website.
