Go Inside Kentucky Football Fall Camp with CB JQ Hardaway

There is little more than a week left of Kentucky Football Fall Camp. Until game week arrives, we’re hanging onto every bit of action we can get.

Preseason practices are closed to the public, but we do get to see a different side of the Wildcats when they are mic’d up for practice. The highlights might be able to tell you a thing or two.

There aren’t too many live reps in the latest video with JQ Hardaway. We do get to see a funny moment when he and DJ Waller are dogging Jordan Lovett’s “drip.”

Communication is key for the Kentucky defense. You’ll hear a ton of chatter. The part that jumps out to me the most is how the secondary breaks each huddle: “Takers!” Kentucky only had 16 takeaways in 2024. The more they can help the offense in 2025, the better.

Mark Stoops believes the secondary could be the strength of this Kentucky defense. Maxwell Hairston was a first-round draft pick in the spring, but he missed five SEC games due to injury. The Wildcats still finished ranked fourth in the SEC in pass defense, and most of those guys are back.

DJ Waller will be playing opposite Hardaway. He played as a true freshman for Michigan’s National Championship team and has exceptional positional size and athleticism. On the back end, Ty Bryant and Jordan Lovett are two of the more experienced playmakers on the Kentucky defense. The guys behind them also give BBN plenty of reasons to be optimistic. We broke that down, and much more, in the latest edition of 11 Personnel.
