Giants Rookies Celebrate Star Wars Holiday

New York Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter and quarterback Jaxson Dart both have Star Wars to thank for some eye-black inspiration.

It’s not often that teams get to introduce two first-round picks in the same class, and it’s even more promising when it comes in the fashion the New York Giants found in 2025.

With the third pick, the Giants took Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. Later in Round 1, they traded up for Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart. The former is one of the class’ two blue-chip prospects and an instant boost to an ascending New York defensive line. Dart, meanwhile, represents a new era of Giants football and a chance at franchise quarterbacking.

It is finally an exciting time to root for New York, and fans are already getting their hopes up.

What’s rarer than having two first-round picks is having two who are an immediate marketing match. Both Carter and Dart are Star Wars fans, and both aren’t afraid to show it, wearing tributes to the show on their faces during games.

The Giants' first-round rookies celebrated the Star Wars holiday of May 4 with a post on the team’s social media accounts.

“It’s like a mindset I try to tap into, like nothing can stop me, like nothing can stop Darth Vader,” Carter said.

Carter has been known to wear black tape with “Darth Vader” written on it. He claims it helps him tap into a mindset, making one of college football’s biggest stars all the more intimidating.

Dart, meanwhile, has a signature eye black that resembles a scar on Anakin Skywalker’s face.

“Geez, I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was a little kid,” Dart said. “It was really the first thing that I got into when I was young. And, my favorite character growing up was Anakin Skywalker. So I kind of tribute my eye black to his scar on his face.”

Together, they’ll hope to create an evil empire in East Rutherford.

“Definitely ‘Revenge of the Sith.’ But I also like the Obi-Wan Kenobi show,” Carter said. “And I play the Star Wars video game, Battlefront II, all the time. Pretty much fell in love with Star Wars in high school when I started to watch it.

“I kind of got on it late. But once I got into it, I just fell in love with it.”

It won’t take long for the New York faithful to fall in love with its newest stars, and the marketing opportunities are endless. They’ll look to make good on that early excitement in 2025.
