West Virginia Mountaineers: Transfer 101: Logan Ramper

The West Virginia Mountaineers football program has added another veteran pass catcher with a commitment from Slippery Rock transfer wide receiver Logan Ramper.

Ramper, 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, entered the transfer portal April 30 and that quickly led to an official visit to Morgantown May 2. He would then commit to the Mountaineers at the end of that trip.

The Pennsylvania product spent three years with the Slippery Rock football program where he appeared in 28 contests and he recorded 74 catches, 1,165 yards and 14 touchdowns.

This past season Ramper caught 42 passes for 748 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Ramper selected West Virginia over offers from Pittsburgh, Temple, UTEP, Western Michigan, Buffalo and Delaware once he entered the transfer portal.

Ramper becomes the fourth transfer addition since the spring portal window opened joining South Carolina State wide receiver Justin Smith-Brown, Jacksonville State wide receiver Jordan McCants and North Carolina wide receiver Christian Hamilton. The Mountaineers have added nine total transfers at the position.

He has one year of eligibility remaining in his career.

WVSports.com breaks down the transfer commitment of Ramper and what it means to the West Virginia Mountaineers football program both now and in the future.

The data:

Slippery Rock does not have advanced statistics from Pro Football Focus, but Ramper is a versatile, big-bodied pass catcher that was productive at the Division II level. He is coming off a season where he started seven of ten games and hauled in 42 passes for 748 and 8 touchdowns.

Ramper hit the triple crown for Slippery Rock by leading them in receiving touchdowns, yards per reception and receiving yards per game.

Ramper has good size and runs well carrying that showcased by averaging 17.8 yards per catch. This is an experienced wide receiver that should be able to fit in immediately for the program not only as a pass catcher but a physical blocker that has the size to throw his weight around.

Fitting the program:

West Virginia has been searching for more quality depth in the wide receiver room and Ramper can provide that and potentially more as an experienced pass catcher that runs well. Ramper has spent time at the college level, albeit division II, and will be counted on to step in and contribute immediately with only one season of eligibility remaining in his college career.

It showcases where he stands with the coaching staff with how aggressive the Mountaineers were once he entered the transfer portal, and he gives the program a different dimension with his size and physicality with some of the players that have been added at the position.

The wide receiver room has received a talent influx with the post spring additions and Ramper is going to have every opportunity to make the most of his final season in Morgantown.

Recruiting the position:

With the addition of Ramper, West Virginia has now added four transfer additions since the end of spring football to a room that the program simply needed more capable bodies. But like every other position on the roster, you simply can’t close the book on any more additions at any spot.

Ramper provides experience with one year left to go along with some of the multi-year additions.
