Four-run eighth sinks WooSox in loss to Toledo

The Worcester Red Sox dropped the final game of their homestand Sunday after the Toledo Mud Hens put together a four-run eighth inning.

That offensive spurt broke open a tie game, giving Toledo a 7-3 win on the road.

Jose Adames entered the game in the top of the eighth for Worcester to replace Zack Kelly. he walked the first batter before giving up a single. One out later, he loaded the bases on another single to Akil Baddoo.

Isaiah Campbell replaced Adames with the bases loaded and the score still tied, 3-3, but Campbell promptly gave up a two-run single to Bligh Madris to give Toledo the lead.

Baddoo and Madris scored one batter later on a triple by Ryan Kreidler.

Adames ultimately earned the loss, as he was accountable for three of the four runs in the frame on two hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning.

Worcester scored one run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Roman Anthony drove in a run on a single to put the WooSox on the board in the fifth. Marcelo Mayer then scored in the sixth on an errant pickoff attempt by Matt Manning.

Worcester’s final run of the game came on an RBI single by Nick Sogard in the seventh.

Anthony finished the day 3-for-5 with one RBI, while Mayer and Phillip Sikes each picked up two hits.

Worcester will spend the next two weeks on the road, traveling to Lehigh Valley from May 6 - 11 and Buffalo from May 13 - 18.

The WooSox return home for a series with Durham on May 20.
