CVS is selling a universally flattering, editor-loved Revlon lip balm for just $8

I used to be a total lipstick fan back in the '90s and aughts. My signature shade? A muted brownish-berry tone, like Revlon's Rum Raisin, that went with everything. Somewhere along the line, though, I stopped wearing lipstick as much — I traded my bold lips for easy glosses, and my old lipstick tubes started collecting dust. Recently, a fellow Yahoo editor told me that the universally flattering Rum Raisin hue is back in a balm version (she even tested it herself — more on that later). I immediately thought: Do I need this in my life again? The answer was yes, especially now that Revlon Rum Raisin Super Lustrous Glass Shine Balm is on sale for just $8 at CVS.

Why is it a good deal? 💰

You can't get much for $8 these days, so scoring a nourishing, shiny lip balm in a hue that looks good on practically everyone? That's definitely a bargain. Even better, through Sept. 27, all Revlon makeup is 25% off at CVS. That means all 10 shades of Super Lustrous Glass Shine Balm, including bright Cherry Luster and moody Spiced Wine, are $8.

Why do I need this? 🤔

Last December, Revlon reintroduced Super Lustrous Glass Shine Balm in five returning shades and added five new colors. According to the brand, the product's new formula is 40% more hydrating, thanks to hyaluronic acid, aloe and rose quartz. While the hues were chosen to flatter a wide variety of skin tones, the most popular is Rum Raisin — a subtle, shiny take on its cult-classic sister lipstick.

Yahoo Contributing Writer & Editor Libby Sentz put the moisture-rich balm formula to the test and, boy, was she impressed. "My lips have faded (and seemingly deflated) over the years, and they need color and conditioning more than ever, but lipstick looks harsh," she wrote. "When I tried this pigmented balm, it instantly woke up my face. It nourishes in a way lipstick didn't back in the day, blurring the wrinkled edges of my lips."

She noted that her lips are "fuller, more vibrant and less wrinkly," and even called the Revlon favorite a "fountain of youth in tube form." If that's not a reason to add it to your cart ASAP, I don't know what is.

One TikTok fan noted: "Look at how much life this adds to my face almost instantly. This color and this formula — stunning. Every time I wear this, I get the most compliments. A thousand out of ten. Revlon never misses when it comes to a lippie."

"Everyone I see use this color looks absolutely beautiful wearing it," said another. After testing it, they added: "Wow. It is very pigmented and absolutely beautiful. I definitely see that shine, that glassy finish. ... I need to go back and get more colors. ... It's super hydrating on the lips."

"I got the [Rum Raisin shade] and I'm obsessed!" raved a CVS shopper. "It went on so smooth, and doesn't smell weird or make my lips feel sticky. The color is so pretty and perfect for fall."

Cons 👎

Another buyer commented on its staying power: "'[While] the color and sheen of this balm were gorgeous, it completely disappeared after I drank my morning coffee. If you don't need something long-lasting, though, this could be the product for you. It was pretty moisturizing as well."

A final CVS shopper called it "the perfect hint of color" but didn't love its scent. "It's too sweet and the [smell] is long-lasting. I prefer a minty scent if any at all."
