T.J. Watt and the Steelers still have not come to a new contract agreement.
One of the biggest stories of the 2025 offseason, has been whether or not Watt will resign with the Steelers. As of right now, no contract has been signed, and a trade could still be very possible.
The Falcons are a team that could look to build up some assets and trade for Watt, to have a former defensive player of the year, 7x pro bowler and 6x all-pro on their defense. They could also add him, for a veteran Prescence to mentor Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr.
The Falcons have a lot of money invested in backup quarterback Kirk Cousins, but they also can utilize a contract like his and some other assets to pick up someone like Watt. They also are always looking to bring in more help on their defense, as that has been the primary struggle over the last few years.
The Falcons go into 2025 with some very high expectations, and especially for the defense, so bringing in a guy who has led the league in sacks three times, including his 22.5 sack season in 2021, would be a big deal. Watt has terrorized the league since he was drafted 30th overall in 2017, as he sits with 108 career sacks.
Watt and the Steelers have made it to the playoffs consistently, but have not had much success in the playoffs, which is a big reason that Watt could potentially end up elsewhere. The Falcons will continue to monitor Watt and what happens in Pittsburgh with that situation.
It all comes down to offers and how Watt feels about joining a team like the Falcons.
