CorSport: Maignan renewal delayed as Milan will consult new sporting director

Despite reaching an agreement with Mike Maignan over a contract renewal, AC Milan have decided to delay the signature as they want the input of their next sporting director, a report claims.

Contract renewals have been a sensitive topic at Milan in recent years, with the likes of Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu leaving for free. Then, before an agreement was eventually reached, there was a complicated negotiation with Rafael Leao.

In short, the fact that Milan fans are worried about Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez – who both will expire in 2026 – is no surprise. According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri have an agreement with Maignan over a renewal, but they have decided to wait.

The new deal would extend the goalkeeper’s contract until 2028, with a pay rise from €2.8m per season to €5m. Only the signature is missing as things stand and it will be missing for a little longer, as the Rossoneri are keen on consulting their next sporting director on the matter.

Maignan’s performances haven’t been the best in the last two seasons and there is some concern regarding the future. Unlike Tijjani Reijnders who renewed a few weeks ago, therefore, the Frenchman’s future is yet to be fully decided.
