'Better than Dyson': Amazon's selling a $430 Shark stick vacuum for a record-low $230

As Yahoo's senior deals writer who specializes in all things home-related, it takes a lot for a vacuum sale to excite me. There are so many models on the market that are essentially the same, and finding one for a true discount (read: without a highly inflated starting price to make you think you're getting a bargain) is rare. That's why I did a double-take when I spotted the Shark Vertex Cordless Stick Vacuum during my morning markdown hunt. Not only is it jam-packed with features that are tempting me to add yet another appliance to my (ever-growing) cleaning arsenal, but it was also just slashed by $200, dropping it to the lowest price I've ever seen it on sale for. TL;DR: If you're going to buy a vacuum today, make it this one.

At just nine pounds, this Shark is more pygmy than great white, but what it lacks in heft, it makes up for in bite.

Why is it a good deal? 💰

No, $230 isn't cheap for a vacuum, but this is no ordinary soot sucker-upper. Its many bells and whistles (which we'll get to in a moment) are akin to what you'd find with pricier models; in fact, one verified reviewer went as far as to say, "This is hands down better than my Dyson." You're saving over 45%, so my advice? Snag this Shark before it's fin.

Why do I need this? 🤔

Alright, enough alluding to this vacuum's admirable attributes (and enough alliteration while I'm at it). Here's the nitty-gritty: Like many stick vacuums these days, this one has a built-in handvac that comes in, well, handy for cleaning furniture and higher surfaces. Great! But unlike many stick vacuums, the Shark Vertex has a bendable wand that's both helpful for getting into hard-to-reach spaces and makes for more compact storage, since it can be folded down. Yes, please!

Another cool feature is its removable battery, which can be juiced up from any outlet, no bulky charging dock required. Oh, and according to the brand, it can run for up to an hour while you use the handvac.

Now, fancy functions are all well and good, but at the end of the day, any vacuum worth its salt has to suck. I don't think you'll have to worry about that with this model, which is equipped with deep-cleaning "PowerFins" that dig into carpets and rugs for a more thorough dirt-lifting sesh. Oh, and if you've got any furry friends, the self-cleaning brush roller helps prevent you from having to dislodge hairy masses and clumps from its grasp.

Whatever you do, don't challenge this vac to a limbo competition — it'll win every time.

What reviewers say 💬

More than 1,000 Amazon customers have purchased this dust destroyer in the past month alone, with many fans praising its battery life, thoughtful design and impressive suction.

Pros 👍

"It is so strong that it picked up deep, powdery dirt from deep in the carpet," confided one convert. "I also have a very thick, plush room rug that my Dyson would not pick up even dog hairs [from] ... but this cordless wonder cleans it with ease! And my furniture! ... Dog hair gone, and the duster attachment is amazing also. I’ve actually been enjoying cleaning!"

"We replaced our old vacuum with this one," shared a pleased pet parent. "What a difference! This has a front brush roller that sweeps dirt into the vacuum. High suction! Works super on carpets and plank floors. We have thick carpeting and a parrot. Birds are very messy with seeds and feathers. Cleanup is a snap with this vac."

"Revolutionary, like cordless drills were!" exclaimed a content cable cutter. "It's hard to describe how wonderful vacuuming without being tethered to a cord is. I wish I'd had this decades ago. I plan to order a spare battery so I'll always have one ready, but the battery lasts for several vacuums of a 1,400-square-foot area."

Cons 👎

"Lightweight, adjustable and easy to assemble," reported a generally satisfied shopper. "Works great on all different carpets, and man, it has some great forward-motion suction!" Their one note? "I noticed the backward motion doesn’t suck as well as when it’s going forward, but I can deal with that. The light makes me see dirt I wasn’t seeing before, making it hard for me to put it down because I wanna get all the dirt!"

"The best pet-hair vacuum I have ever had," gushed a fortunate fur fighter. "I don’t know how many hours I spent pulling hair out of vacuum rollers, but never again. My only note is that the canister needs to be bigger. During shedding times, I have to stop every few minutes."

Better catch this deal before it swims away...

Prefer to let your cleaner do the dirty work for you? Here's another stellar Shark sale:

Robovacs are great, but for a truly hands-off experience, you'll want a self-emptying model: This top-seller has a collection bin that can hold up to 60 days' worth of dust and debris. That means you could go as long as two months without having to clean it out, saving you even more time.

It's powerful enough to zap up everything from the kids' crumbs to Fido's fur, and its 360-degree LiDAR vision allows it to sense and move around any larger objects and furniture it comes across. The Matrix Clean feature encourages it to work in a grid pattern for more thorough coverage, and you can schedule cleanings or ask it to focus on a specific area via the SharkClean app or even your voice (it's compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant).

The only time I've seen it on sale for less was Black Friday, so add it to your cart while you can save 50%.
