49ers Sign Another Tight End Amid Kittle Celebration

The San Francisco 49ers have brought back the player who has backed up George Kittle for years.

The San Francisco 49ers have one of the best tight ends of this generation in George Kittle, but even he needs someone to back him up.

For the majority of Kittle's career, one of his backups has been Ross Dwelley. He joined the Atlanta Falcons last offseason, ending the six-year streak the two had together.

Now... he's back.

The Niners recently announced that they had signed Dwelley to a one-year deal to once again be one of their backup tight ends. Kittle could not be happier, as he took to his Instagram story to celebrate.

The superstar tight end reposted the initial post the 49ers made when they signed Dwelley. He mentioned his backup in the story, and added just one crying while smiling emoji to finish it off.

Dwelley has appeared in 84 games for the 49ers and started in 17 of them. He has racked up 515 yards and five touchdowns, showing he can get it done when the team calls on him.

Kittle - also celebrating because he himself just signed a record-setting $76.4 million contract extension to stay in The Bay - had a few nagging injuries that kept him out of a few games this past season, and you never know when the injury bug will shows its ugly face again.

When it does, fans, as well as the organization, can rest easy knowing that they have a veteran backup in Dwelley ready to come in and do exactly what the team needs him to do.
