2027 5-star EDGE commit LaDamion Guyton is ‘solid’ to Texas Tech, but his recruitment is not shut down

Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School star LaDamion Guyton shocked many in the recruiting world when he committed to Texas Tech on Aug. 7. A few weeks have passed, and the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the 2027 Rivals300 says nothing has changed in his confidence level.

“I’m feeling solid,” Guyton told Rivals. “Nothing in my mind can make me look at that program a different way than the day I chose to commit. I still feel good about Texas Tech.”

Guyton, a dominant 6-foot-3, 240-pound EDGE, visited Lubbock over the summer before making his pledge. Since then, the Red Raiders have kept the communication constant, making sure the relationship continues to grow.

CJ Ah You is the lead recruiter. James Blanchard and other staffers are heavily involved.

“We talk every day — just checking in, talking life, continuing to learn each other as people. I want to get out to games, stay around the building and the people at Texas Tech.”

NIL was involved, and the people played a key role in his commitment.

They’re laid back and chill — the area I live in is the same way,” he said. “Even though it’s far from home, it feels right. I wanted to put myself in a place where I can focus for the most part. Of course, the facilities are crazy, and with the people, it’s everything I feel I need to be successful.”

Guyton believes Texas Tech is on an upward trajectory.

“I’ve only visited once, but I saw all I needed to see,” he said. “I saw hope — a lot of hope. Opportunities are on the table for Texas Tech, it’s just time to capitalize. I feel the light is at the end of the tunnel. It just took a couple of the right people to see it, like me and the other commits.”

Guyton is the type of talent schools will not give up on

While he’s locked in with Texas Tech, the five-star hasn’t closed the door to other programs. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC are some of the schools that have stayed in contact, reminding him that recruiting isn’t over until signing day.

“I keep communication with all the same teams as before,” he said. “I know it’s not over until I put pen to paper, and I appreciate when they call and check in.”

Guyton has two other visits on the calendar — South Carolina vs. Virginia Tech in Atlanta on Aug. 31 and Auburn at Vanderbilt on Nov. 8. He said he’ll return to Lubbock whenever possible, though no specific dates are set.
