'You only get one shot': Jameis Winston's Eminem lyric leads Week 8 post-win quotes

  • J.J. Post, ESPNOct 28, 2024, 10:11 AM ET

When Jameis Winston gets a mic, memorable things tend to happen. The veteran signal-caller's postgame interview after leading the Cleveland Browns to an upset of the divisional rival Baltimore Ravens was no different.

At first, Winston played the usual hits. He spoke about having faith. He thanked his offensive and defensive lines for winning in the trenches, as well as the Cleveland fans for creating a strong home environment.

Then things took a turn. He paid homage to rapper Eminem, referring to the lyrics of the Detroit rapper's hit "Lose Yourself."

"[Eminem] said 'you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, this opportunity lasts once in a lifetime.'" Winston quipped, when asked what it meant to lead the team in his first start following an injury to Deshaun Watson.

Thanks in large part to Winston's three-touchdown outing, the Browns snapped a five-game losing streak with their 29-24 victory. They'll look to move to 2-0 with Winston as starter next week when they host the Los Angeles Chargers.

Here are some of the other top post-victory quotes from Week 8 of the NFL season.

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett

"Testament to believing in myself and not y'all."

The New England Patriots lost rookie quarterback Drake Maye to an injury, but backup signal-caller Jacoby Brissett entered and helped rally the team to a win over their AFC East rival, the New York Jets. The victory came after Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo called his squad "soft" following their sixth consecutive loss.

Brissett said his confidence in entering the game came from blocking out any outside opinions and believing in his own abilities.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff

"Our special teams and defense were kicking tail."

The Detroit Lions posted one of the season's most dominant wins to date on Sunday, scoring 38 consecutive points to run away from the Tennessee Titans in a 52-38 route. The Lions' seven touchdowns tied the franchise record for most in a game.

The wild part? Detroit only ran 47 offensive plays.

Everyone got involved for the Lions in the win, with the defense forcing four turnovers and special teams chipping in with a 90-yard punt return touchdown by Kalif Raymond. Unsurprisingly, quarterback Jared Goff -- who threw for three touchdowns on just 85 total passing yards -- spread the praise around the roster after the win.

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

"We keep fighting. We got a great locker room, great brotherhood. Nobody else I'd rather go to war with."

It took an improbable ending for the ages, but the Washington Commanders are 6-2.

A 1-yard Roschon Johnson run figured to give the Chicago Bears a late win in Sunday's showdown between the top two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, but Jayden Daniels had other plans. The rookie's 52-yard Hail Mary to Noah Brown as time expired secured a walk-off victory for Washington.

Daniels offered praise for the strength of the Commanders' locker room in helping the team secure the win.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey

"As the games have gone on I feel like we've gotten better and better. Keeping it going and the sky's the limit."

Ladd McConkey enjoyed a breakout game on Sunday for the Los Angeles Chargers, catching six passes for 111 yards and a pair of scores. His performance helped the Chargers cruise past the New Orleans Saints 26-8 to move to 4-3 on the season.

After the win, McConkey spoke about his squad's continued improvement as the season has gone on, as well as what could be in store down the line.
