At this point, it's clear Roman Reigns comes in and out of WWE as he pleases. The OTC helped carry the company for nearly a decade, all while defeating cancer, so no one blames him for taking so much time off to spend with his family. But fans are so heavily invested in the 39-year-old's character and want him more present on weekly programming.
The last time we saw Reigns on television, he was getting speared through a barricade by Bron Breakker and curb-stomped by Seth Rollins. It seemed natural that Reigns would continue a storyline with the red brand's newest faction, but perhaps not as soon as many would've hoped.
According to WrestleVotes Joe during a recent Q&A with Bill Apter, Reigns isn't expected to return to the company until early June. "Money in the Bank is June 7th—I think he's probably a part of that show," Joe said. "Probably not part of the Money in the Bank ladder match but a part of that show, so early June, I expect him back, I'd say."
That prediction would mean Reigns would miss Backlash and the projected tag match with himself and CM Punk against Breakker and Rollins. I wouldn't be surprised if that marquee bout gets pushed back to MITB or even all the way to SummerSlam.
Reigns is in an interesting position where he's dominated the main event scene for so long that it feels like he's running out of things to do. Perhaps the long-awaited feud with Drew McIntyre can come to fruition or even factor into John Cena's retirement tour.
Either way, WWE is better when Reigns is present and engaged.
