Wings' Paige Bueckers is clear about her future after loss to Caitlin Clark's Fever

Paige Bueckers is not used to losing. At one point during her high school career, Bueckers led the Hopkins Royals to 62 consecutive wins. At the University of Connecticut, Bueckers played in four Final Fours and overcame multiple knee injuries to win a national championship with the Huskies earlier this year.

Now in the WNBA, Bueckers is finding the victories tougher to come by. After a loss to Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever on Sunday, Bueckers and the Dallas Wings slipped to 6-16 at the 2025 season's midway point -- even though Bueckers, individually, has been outstanding.

Though she has missed four games through injury, Bueckers is the fastest guard since her UConn idol Diana Taurasi to reach 300 points, 50 assists and 50 rebounds in the WNBA. A virtual shoo-in for Rookie of the Year honors, Bueckers is averaging 18.3 points, 5.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals while playing heavy minutes for the Wings, who have a 15-47 record since the start of 2024.

In Indiana, Bueckers led all players with 21 points, but the Wings turned the ball over 17 times and allowed the Fever to shoot 52 percent from the field in a 102-83 loss.

After the game, Bueckers said Dallas' transition defense was "an issue"; under first-year head coach Chris Koclanes, the Wings rank 11th in defensive rating and ninth in opponent turnover percentage.

But with so many young players in the lineup -- including promising rookies Aziaha James and JJ Quinerly -- Bueckers believes that the Wings are on the right path to building a winner, despite the struggles they have endured in 2025.

"There's no skipping steps to building what we want to build here," Bueckers said Sunday. "This is part of the journey. We are gonna stick together through it."

Dallas, which has a 5-5 record since its 1-11 start, is next in action on Wednesday, when Bueckers and company will host A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces at College Park Center in Arlington.
