The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gotten their season off to a nice start with Todd Bowles' team racing out to a 2-0 record, and now have their first home game of the year up next against the New York Jets.
Both sides of the ball have been producing at a high level, and when it comes to quarterback Baker Mayfield, he's just doing what he's done since coming to the NFC South - win football games.
A total of 382 passing yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions to go with his 72 rushing yards, Baker is playing some high-level football.
But is it good enough to be called a top quarterback in football? For Cody Benjamin's latest quarterback rankings for CBS Sports, Mayfield has consolidated his spot in the top 10, coming in at No. 8.
"Do we give Mayfield his due? This man combined to throw 69 touchdowns in his first two years as the Bucs' gutsy leader," Benjamin writes. "He's off to another hot start, building chemistry with rookie Emeka Egbuka and showing up as a clutch scrambler."
Buccaneers a force with Mayfield
Many had the Buccaneers as the favorites for the division, and some even had them as genuine challengers not only for the NFC, but also the Super Bowl. After two weeks, that tracks.
Even with Mayfield stating the offense isn't playing up to its standard, the team is still winning, and that is a sign of a good football team. As long as Mayfield can continue to play somewhere near his level from last year, Tampa Bay is going to be a serious problem for defenses.
Having gotten out to a good start, now is the time to consolidate it, with the Buccaneers suffering four consecutive losses early in the previous two seasons, so that is something to guard against.
But with Mayfield at the helm, this Buccaneers team has it all before them, and I wouldn't bet against Baker climbing this quarterback rankings list.
