Usyk’s Promoter Departing Will Only Benefit Dubois

Groves feels that Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, departing can only help Dubois in the match

Oleksandr Usyk and Alex Krassyuk have parted ways. Krassyuk has been promoting his fellow Ukrainian from the commencement of Usyk’s professional career, which started after the southpaw’s Olympic gold-medal victory at London 2012, until last Sunday.

Having Krassyuk in his corner, the fighter became the first – and only – undisputed cruiserweight titlist of the four-title era, before being crowned the first undisputed heavyweight titleholder in 24 years.

However, with Usyk’s replay against the Londoner Daniel Dubois barely four weeks away, the modern icon and Krassyuk have unexpectedly separated.

The pair weren’t some glitzy Instagram buddies. They toiled in the shadows and constructed something that will go down in the annals of history.

“It’s been a tremendous journey – 12 years of unbelievable success.

“Two young dreamers met each other to change the game. Back in 2013, I gave you my word – and I kept it.

“At the time, no one believed we were capable of achieving what we set out to do. But by the grace of God, we completed the seemingly impossible mission.

“A dream come true. Thank you for all we’ve gone through and for the honor to be the lifetime promoter of the double undisputed [champion],” Krassyuk posted on social media.

“Is it down to money? Nine times out of ten, when people part ways at the end, it's down to money. Is it due to circumstances in their country or family, or does he simply no longer want to do it? I don't know. But if I'm Daniel Dubois, I'm buzzing about that. That's a massive change. At best, there's a rift, there's a problem, there's stress. And if it's the end, it's all coming to the end now,” said George Groves in an interview with CasinoBeats while acknowledging the fall-out would work in favor of Daniel Dubois.

Meanwhile, Daniel Dubois’ rematch with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk is less than a month away. The pair first contested back in August 2023. Dubois put Usyk with a shot that was ruled low. He was accorded time to recover, and he proceeded to stop the Briton in the ninth round.
