Tony DeAnda hired as new Jimmies women's wrestling head coach

JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team officially has a new head coach and he's a familiar face to long time fans of the program: Tony DeAnda.

DeAnda previously served as the head coach of the Jimmies from 2011-2017. During that time, the Jimmies had 16 women’s collegiate wrestling association All-Americans, six WCWA scholar-athletes and six Olympic team trial qualifiers. He had one wrestler — Amy Fearnside — finish as a national runner-up in the 109-kilogram competition in 2011. He also had two top five team finishes, in 2011 and 2013.

DeAnda left the Jimmies to be the women’s wrestling head coach at the University of Providence (Montana) from 2017-18. After his stop with the Argos, he was the men’s and women’s wrestling head coach at Presbyterian College (South Carolina) from 2018-20. His most recent stop came at Northern Michigan University, where he was the women’s wrestling head coach from 2020-2024.

During his time at Northern Michigan he was named the regional coach of the year in 2023 and had two All-Americans, Diana Dzasezeva and Lydia Krauss.
