Tigers predicted to land two-time all-star shortstop in free agency

The Detroit Tigers' season is far from over. Sitting at 85-65, they are poised to be playing October baseball. However, based on how that experience turns out, it will likely influence Detroit's front office in making key decisions in the offseason.

The 2026 free agency class is loaded with talent across the board, and some players who are in a walk year are really showcasing their ability and value to a team. One of those players is the Toronto Blue Jays' Bo Bichette.

Detroit Tigers predicted to land Bo Bichette in free agency

2026 free agency is not as far away as you may think. With just a few weeks left in the regular season and October baseball left to be played, the baseball season is sadly in the latter part of its schedule.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Detroit Tigers could be a sneaky destination for two-time all-star Bo Bichette, who is having a fantastic season:

"Is Bichette a shortstop or a third baseman moving forward? Either way, he's a fantastic hitter who's going to make a bunch of money, but that question is one every team pursuing the 27-year-old will have to decide for themselves, leaving Bichette to determine how important a factor position is in his own decision."

"This was one of the toughest calls on the list, because the Blue Jays are deep enough to replace Bichette in theory. So we'll go with what some might consider a minor upset and pick a Detroit Tigers team that doesn't have a slam-dunk starter at either infield position next year."

For a team in the Detroit Tigers, who have seen some instability among the left side infielders on their roster, Bichette would be an outstanding pickup.

In 139 games this season, Bichette leads MLB in hits (181) and doubles (44), and is hitting .311. Not bad for a contract year, and it certainly will pay off for Bichette when he hits the open market.
