Tigers' A.J. Hinch drops NSFW comment after terrible Athletics series

The Detroit Tigers, looking to cement themselves as a top contender in the AL, traveled out to Sacramento to play the Athletics. The A's were 60-72 before the series began against the 78-54 Tigers.

But, after three straight rough games, the Tigers were swept by the Athletics in a stunning series for the top AL Central contenders. While their AL Central lead looks strong at 8.5 games, and the chances to earn a first-round bye are high, it was still a rough series.

Chris McCoskey of The Detroit News shared comments from manager A.J. Hinch after the final game of the series. Hinch didn't hold back, as he provided an NSFW answer to how the series went for the Tigers.

Hinch Calls Tigers 'Painful to Watch'

"We had a really (expletive) series," Hinch said. "We didn't play well. We got beat in all facets. ... When you get outplayed on offense, defense, pitching, across the board, it's painful to watch and it's painful to experience as a team."

The Tigers were swept by the Athletics, losing game one of the series 3-8, game two 7-6, and in game three, 7-0 in a brutal loss to close out a forgettable series.

In that series finale, the Tigers committed two errors on defense, while notching just two hits and three walks in one of the worst games the Tigers have played all year.

Combined with the two other rough games, it's no surprise that Hinch called the Tigers painful to watch. Having a manager give clear comments amid such a brutal stretch is a sign that they'll acknowledge the issues and address them going forward.

MOREOne Jack Flaherty statistic that should concern Tigers fans

Even though such a series was a complete disaster, Hinch is still confident in his team. And with how they've played all year, it's hard to argue with him.

"But we know we're going to be better," Hinch said. "We're going to head to Kansas City and be better."

The Tigers are still in good shape to not only win the AL Central but also secure a bye in the 2025 postseason field.

Even though this series was a tough one for the Tigers, leaving Hinch to curse in his post-game press conference, there's still plenty to look forward to this season for the Tigers.
