COLFAX — Ten wins wasn’t enough for the Lynnville-Sully girls track and field team at the Colfax-Mingo Coed Invitational on April 22.
The Hawks won five relays and finished second five times, but the host Tigerhawks edged them in the final standings.
Colfax-Mingo won the meet with 187 points, while Lynnville-Sully had 185 in second. The rest of the six-team field featured North Tama (99), Colo-NESCO (52), Grand View Christian (35) and Meskwaki Settlement School (27).
“The Hawks had a lot of first-place finishes, improved times and continue to see improvements as we move through the season,” Lynnville-Sully head girls track and field coach Kevin Johnson said. “I’m proud of their efforts all night long.”

Tatum Huyser was part of four wins to lead the Hawks. She won the 100-meter dash in 13.03 seconds, sprinted to a win in the 200 in 26.8 and had a leap of 5 feet, 0 inches to win the high jump.
Isabelle Vos also claimed four wins. She won the 400 in a career-best 1 minute, 3.89 seconds and posted a winning jump of 14-11 in the long jump.
The Hawks doubled up in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500, 3,000 and the long jump.
Morgan Hay (14.12) was second in the 200, Breah Lowry (career-best 28.97) took second in the 200, Brooke Harthoorn placed fifth in the 400 in a career-best 1:12.28 and Mandeesa Vos and Parkinson finished 3-4 in the 1,500 and 2-4 in the 3,000.
Mandeesa Vos (5:37.88) was third in the 1,500 and Parkinson (5:42.34) placed fourth and Mandeesa Vos (11:41.92) took second in the 3,000 and Parkinson (12:13.99) finished fourth.
Olivia Norrish (2:42.22) and Peyton Sharp (2:45.42) were 3-4 in the 800, Kenna Johnson (career-best 32.73) placed fifth in the 200 and Hay (13-3 3/4) took fourth in the long jump.
The Hawks won the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley and distance medley relays and took second in the 4x200 and shuttle hurdle relays.
Cori Fisk, Brilynn Tice, Hay and Lowry won the 4x100 in 55.65 seconds and Kate Harthoorn, Sharp, Huyser and Isabelle Vos placed first in the 4x400 in a season-best 4:24.33.

The winning 4x800 relay team included Kate Harthoorn, Norrish, Isabelle Vos and Sharp and they won the race in 10:40.29.
Kenna Johnson, Carola Catarinella, Fisk and Brooke Harthoorn teamed up to win the sprint medley relay in 2:11.82 and the winning distance medley relay team of Tice, Lowry, Sharp and Parkinson won the race in a season-best 4:46.31.
The 4x200 relay team had a dropped baton and still almost won the race. The team of Fisk, Tice, Hay and Lowry finished second in 2:02.02.
Catarinella, Fisk, Mandeesa Vos and Kate Harthoorn placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:25.2.
Hawks tie for second at Chariton Lady Chargers Relays
CHARITON — Kate Harthoorn won the 800 and was part of the winning 4x800 relay team and the Hawks piled up 16 top-three finishes but settled for second at the Chariton Lady Chargers Relays on Tuesday.
Lynnville-Sully’s four wins and a combined 12 second- and third-place finishes powered the Hawks to 148 points. That tied Wayne in the Class A standings and Central Decatur won the meet championship with 194.
Melcher-Dallas (81), Moravia (70) and East Union (51) completed the small-school field.

“It was great to get a meet in after Mother Nature canceled a few meets,” Coach Johnson said. “The Hawks looked good as they worked hard and continued to see progress on the track.”
Lynnville-Sully’s track meet at Martensdale-St. Marys on April 24 and PCM’s meet on April 28 both were canceled due to inclement weather.
The winning 4x800 relay team featured Kate Harthoorn, Brooke Harthoorn, Norrish and Sharp and they won the race in a season-best time of 10:31.4.
The other three wins came from Kate Harthoorn in the 800, Mandeesa Vos in the 3,000 and Huyser in the high jump.
Kate Harthoorn won the 800 in a career-best 2:35.8 and Parkinson finished second in a career-best 2:40.3.
Mandeesa Vos’ win in the 3,000 came in a career-best time of 11:36.18 and Parkinson was third in 12:08.08.
Huyser (5-0) won the high jump, Isabelle Vos (14-0) was third in the long jump and Sophia Squires (77-0) placed fifth in the discus.
Huyser and Isabelle Vos were 2-3 in the 400, Huyser (13.21) took third in the 100 and Isabelle Vos was sixth in the 200.

Huyser’s runner-up time in the 400 was clocked in a career-best 1:03.2 and Isabelle Vos finished third in 1:04.15. Vos also posted a career-best time of 30.11 in the 200.
The Hawks also doubled up in the 1,500 with Mandeesa Vos (5:32.65) and Norrish (5:42.62).
The 4x400, sprint medley and distance medley relays were second and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays placed third.
Tice, Fisk, Hay and Lowry were third in the 4x100 in 56.25 and Tice, Brooke Harthoorn, Hay and Lowry finished third in the 4x200 in 1:58.61.
Parkinson, Brooke Harthoorn, Sharp and Kate Harthoorn posted a time of 4:41.24 and placed second in the 4x400 relay.
The sprint medley relay team of Tice, Hay, Lowry and Isabelle Vos placed second in a season-best 2:00.1.
Kenna Johnson, Tice, Sharp and Norrish also were second in the distance medley relay in 4:58.34.
“It was a beautiful night to run,” Coach Johnson said. “The Hawks competed all night and did some good things as we had to make some last minute adjustments due to weather.”
