For a complete roster like the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to field in 2025, there is one area of concern for the Super Bowl champions heading into this week’s launch of training camp.
And it’s an area that may force Philly to take an emergency approach in a search for a fix.
Last season, Philadelphia’s linebacker room blossomed into one of the best in football. Zack Baun was named a first-team All-Pro, and Nakobe Dean had the kind of breakout season many had expected of him. Even when Dean suffered a season-ending injury in the playoffs, Oren Burks replaced him and played at a very high level.
This year, however, we predict the linebacker room is going to be a problem, even if it’s just for the start of the regular season.
Dean continues to recover from his injury suffered in the playoffs, Burks has signed a free agent deal with the Bengals, and Eagles first-round pick Jihaad Campbell is expected to start training camp continuing to rehab his injury.
Campbell was the 31st overall pick in the 2025 draft by the Eagles in April. The issue that the Alabama product is dealing with is his own injury history. Campbell had a shoulder problem and a knee injury he was working through during the pre-draft process.
Had Campbell been healthy, he would have been taken much earlier in the 2025 NFL Draft… so that’s the eventual good news here.
But for now?
It is unclear when Campbell will be ready to see the field with his injury. It is important, though, because his absence could very well trigger the Eagles into addressing the linebacker position again ahead of the regular season.
Will GM Howie Roseman be looking to pull the trigger on a just-in-case move if the present cast of linebacker characters is unready? That’s a good bet.
