Suns Predicted to Select OG Anunoby-Like Prospect in 2025 NBA Draft

Everyone’s eyes will be on the Phoenix Suns once the NBA offseason begins as they are expected to make some massive decisions regarding their roster this summer.

Of course, the Suns failed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season after they finished 11th in the Western Conference with an abysmal 36-46 record.

Phoenix now enters a crucial offseason where they are expected to break up their superstar trio by moving on from Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to rebuild around Devin Booker.

Those will likely not be the only trades the Suns make this summer as they try to right the ship and become title contenders once again.

While the storyline entering the offseason revolves around Durant, the Suns’ summer begins with the 2025 NBA Draft where they currently only hold one pick in the first round, though that could change if they move on from Durant.

Right now, the Suns own the 29th selection in the draft and ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel recently released a mock draft where he has them selecting an OG Anunoby-like player in Drake Powell out of North Carolina.

New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby (8) and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23).

“There is no denying that Powell has a high motor and could become a factor on the wing like OG Anunoby. After all, Anunoby was a raw athlete when he first entered the league from Indiana in 2017, and it took him some time to find his footing before being given an opportunity to play full minutes,” Siegel wrote.

This is a bold comparison by Siegel but one that fits Powell due to his 3-and-D abilities which is reminiscent of Anunoby coming out of college.

In his freshman season with the Tar Heels, Powell averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 37.9% from three.

Powell still has a lot of development ahead of him but with the Suns likely heading towards a rebuild, he may be able to fit in well next to Booker in the future.
