Starbucks announced Wednesday the appointment of two new members to the company’s board of directors: former finance firm Mildstorm CEO Dambisa Moyo, and former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
Moyo is a baroness and member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords. She has been co-principal of Versaca Investments, a global family office and asset management firm that she cofounded in 2021. Moyo served as CEO of Mildstorm from 2015 until 2021. She is also a board member of Conde Nast and Chevron, and previously served on the boards of SABMiller, Barclays Bank, 3M, and Seagate Technologies.
“It’s a privilege to join the Starbucks board of directors and contribute to a company that has become a global symbol of connection, resilience, and innovation,” Moyo said in a statement. “Starbucks commitment to uplifting local communities and creating economic opportunities worldwide is inspiring. I look forward to supporting the company’s long-term growth as it continues to lead with purpose, impact, and integrity.”
Mayer worked for Google in various leadership positions for 13 years before becoming CEO of Yahoo until 2017. She founded Sunshine AI in 2018 and has been CEO of the company since then. She serves on the board of directors for Hilton, AT&T, and Walmart.
“At its core, Starbucks has always blended meaningful relationships with a spirit of innovation,” Mayer said in a statement. “I’m honored to join the Starbucks Board of Directors at such a dynamic time in the company’s journey. The Back to Starbucks strategy is a powerful call to return to the brand’s strengths while embracing the digital tools that will define the next generation of customer and partner experience.”
Moyo and Mayer join nine other members of the Starbucks board, including Ritch Allison, Andrew Campion, Beth Ford, Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, Neal Mohan, Daniel Servitje, Mike Sievert, Wei Zhang, and Brian Niccol.
