BILLINGS — Tyler Shelnut capped off a 3-for-3 night with a walk-off double down the right field line as the Billings Mustangs overcame a 9-3 deficit to down the Glacier Range Riders 11-10 Friday at Dehler Park.
Shelnut tied the game at 10 in the eighth with his seventh home run of the season. He finished with four RBIs.
Glacier (16-30) reliever Rayne Supple put the first two batters away in the ninth before walking Kyle Micklus. After Micklus was replaced by pinch runner AJ Shaver, the Range Riders intentionally walked Patrick Mills. That brought up Shelnut who sent Shaver home with his drive to right field.
Glacier jumped out early with five runs in the first two innings as Xavier Casserilla started the scoring with a double to right that scored Logan Beard. Casserilla came home on a TJ Clarkson single to make it 2-0.
Next inning Jack Lynch tripled to left center, scoring Angel Mendoza. He later came home on a wild pitch.
Billings (18-28) got on the board in the bottom of the second as Evan Berkey reached on an error that helped Jacob Kline across the plate.
In the fourth, Berkey made it 5-3 with a two-run homer to left.
A pair of two-run homers in the fifth inning extended the Range Riders lead to 9-3 as Lynch and Gabe Howell went deep.
Jack O’Dowd had an instant response in the bottom of the fifth with a grand slam to right, cutting the deficit to 9-7.
Lynch hit his second homer of the game and fifth of the season in the seventh to put Glacier back ahead 10-8. Lynch finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs and crossing the plate three times.
In the 8th, Shelnut went yard to tie the game at 10, setting up his ninth inning heroics for the Mustangs.
Grant Taylor started for the Range Riders, going four innings and allowing six runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked four.
Justin Fuson was chased after just 2-3 innings for the Mustangs, allowing two runs on two hits and fanning one.
