The worst kept secret about Shedeur Sanders’ pre-draft narratives was that he feels an honest pull towards helping the community he’s in and the kids in them. That is true for Jackson, Mississippi, Boulder, Colorado, and now Cleveland, Ohio. Many onlookers are quick to claim Shedeur’s high school trips after being drafted by the Browns was a publicity stunt. For those aware of his work in those communities, seeing Shedeur at schools or talking to young fans is nothing new. In the Kinsman neighborhood of Southeast Cleveland this week, Sanders showed just how committed he is to the communities he blesses.
On June 27, there was a horrific fire at the Rainbow Terrace apartment complex in the Garden Valley neighborhood. A “low income housing” between the 73rd and 79th blocks of Kinsman. To those in and around the Cleveland area, the area has a developed a reputation for being a very tough neighborhood. According to report by News Talk Cleveland, Kinsman as the fifth-most dangerous neighborhood in the greater Cleveland metro area. That reputation, fair or unfair, has led to that part of town being forgotten or avoided by many with the power and resources to help.
At the time of the Rainbow Terrace Fire, Shedeur was visiting his father Deion Sanders at his Canton, Texas home. He was outside the Cleveland news radius and simply had not heard of the devastating fire that ravaged a community. Following an Instagram message Shedeur received, he chose to act. In just five days time, Shedeur Sanders was able to fly back to Cleveland while making moves to give back to that community in their time of need.
Shedeur leveraged his business relationships with multiple national brands. Gatorade provided beverages. Shedeur gave away sneakers and clothes. As well as working with several local businesses that included ‘bouncy houses’ for the younger kids, food trucks, and even DJs for the event. He provided and funded the “Fun Fest” at the Rainbow Terrace Apartments. With fans everywhere applauding his efforts.
One unnamed resident, courtesy of News 5 Cleveland, put this event into a perspective that only adds to Shedeur’s gesture, providing positivity to a dark time. “I think its wonderful. I think it’s about time. That you know, these kids look like they’re having a great time out here. Because usually, it’s not this nice here. So, I’m loving this.”

While many skeptics will claim this was just another publicity stunt by a genius level marketing family, Shedeur put any such narratives to rest. “Grown” established that this event is not for publicity for him. He calmly explained to approaching media that this is not something to cover. This is just about him spending time with people in the community. Eliminating any sense that this was fixed to boost him image.
Many people will have many different opinions about the Sanders family. However, one thing that is not debatable is that Deion Sanders prepared his boys for life very well. Whether that is his direct offspring or those young men he coaches, They’re self-aware, conduct themselves like professionals, and utilize their opportunities. While at the same time, fully understanding their place in the world and often reaching out to help the communities they operate in. Regardless of any larger personal benefit to them.
