SE Polk grad Abu Sama III among top virtual Cyclones

Abu Sama III, Tyler Miller and Caleb Bacon were all Iowa high school football standouts before arriving in Ames to play for Matt Campbell and Iowa State. The three helped the Cyclones experience one of their more memorable seasons, winning 11 games including a bowl victory.

The trio are all among the Top 10 rated Iowa State players on the team in the upcoming new EA Sports College Football video game, set to be released this month.

Sama III, who shined at Southeast Polk, is a running back who earned an 86 overall rating. Miller, a member of the offensive line from Greene County, is an 85, and Bacon, a linebacker from Lake Mills, is an 84.

The 2022 Gatorade Iowa Player of the Year, Sama, who will be a junior, recorded 372 yards rushing and six touchdowns in the state football championship game as a senior for the Rams. He earned multiple first team all-state honors after rushing for over 1,400 yards and scoring 28 touchdowns, while also excelling in the long jump in track and field.

Miller, a redshirt senior, checks in at a hulking 6-foot-9 and 330 pounds. He held offers from Virginia, Minnesota, Nebraska another others coming out of high school after earning all-state status. He also played basketball for Greene County.

Bacon, also a redshirt senior, was a two-time all-stater and named the 2020 Mason City Globe-Gazette Defensive Player of the Year. He walked on to the Cyclone program after recording 103 tackles as a senior with the Bulldogs.
