Kingston Liniak bested Gio Brusa in the knockout round to send the Glacier Range Riders home with a 4-3 win Tuesday evening against the defending league champion Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers at Glacier Bank Park.
Liniak put up three homers in the knockout round, while Brusa only hit two big flies.
After a slow start for Glacier (15-16 in the second half), TJ Clarkson hit his 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning to take the lead 1-0. Logan Beard followed the long ball with a single that led to an error by Yuba-Sutter (13-18), bringing in two more runs and extending the lead to 3-0.
Connor Denning started the High Wheelers comeback in the fifth inning with an RBI single, Evan Berkey scored narrowing the deficit to 3-1.
The High Wheelers took advantage of an error in the eighth inning to score a second run, and a Bobby Lada home run in the top of the ninth evened the score at three.
The rest was history as Liniak saved the day for the Range Riders in the knockout round.
Glacier’s Jared Engman gave up one run in five innings with three strikeouts. Cole Cressend started for Yuba-Sutter and fanned six batters in the evening but gave up all three runs.
The teams continued their six-game series Wednesday, but the game was still going at press time.
