Relatives of the victims of the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, have clashed with security guards in the Israeli parliament, the Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.
There were at least two injuries, the report said. A report by the newspaper Haaretz stated that a man whose son was murdered by terrorists at a music festival lost consciousness during the scuffle.
Several Israeli media outlets reported that the security guards had denied dozens of victims' relatives access to a visitor's gallery. Subsequently, the relatives attempted to get past the guards at a staircase, after which they were forcibly pushed back.
Media footage showed the brawls as well as a man lying motionless on the staircase.
The families of the victims are demanding a state commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, 2023. This was to be discussed during a special session in the parliament, the Knesset. According to media reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also present.
The relatives were eventually allowed onto the gallery, media reports said. Several turned their backs on Netanyahu in protest. The prime minister is opposed to the establishment of an inquiry commission.
Critics accuse him of failing to take personal responsibility for the political and military failures during the massacre led by the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, in order not to jeopardize his power.
