CLEVELAND — Red Sox catcher Connor Wong (fractured pinky) is likely to begin a rehab assignment Sunday for Triple-A Worcester if all goes well with his workout Saturday.

Today’s workout will include an interesting drill. He will catch off the Trajekt pitching machine.

The Trajekt simulates any major league pitcher’s windup and entire repertoire for hitters to prepare.

“It was a good day yesterday,” manager Alex Cora said before Boston’s doubleheader Saturday against the Guardians. “He’s going to catch off (the) Trajekt today. ... I have to get back to (head athletic trainer) Brandon Henry — but texting with Connor last night, he feels like he’s ready to go on Sunday."

Wong broke his pinky April 7 during a home game against Toronto. He struggled offensively to begin the season, batting just 2-for-23 (.087 batting average) with a .192 on-base percentage and .087 slugging percentage.

Carlos Narváez has handled the pitching staff well in Wong’s absence. He is in the 100th percentile in blocks above average (4) and 87th percentile in framing (1). He’s also in the 86th percentile in fielding run value (2).
