Real Madrid defeated Manchester City during the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League to advance to the Round of 16 for a Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid. The Spanish teams have already played two regular season games in La Liga – both draws – but they haven't met since 2017 in the Champions League. They will play the first of two Round of 16 matches on Real Madrid's home turf, Santiago Bernabeu, on March 4. The second leg match will take place on March 12 at Metropolitano Stadium.
The UEFA Champions League season began on Sept. 17 and runs through May, 2025.
