With a market cap of $25.9 billion, PPG Industries, Inc. (PPG) is a leading global manufacturer and distributor of paints, coatings, and specialty materials. Operating across three segments: Global Architectural Coatings; Performance Coatings; and Industrial Coatings, PPG serves a diverse range of industries and customers in over 70 countries. PPG is expected to release its fiscal Q2 2025 earnings results on Thursday, July 17.

Ahead of this event, analysts project the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based company to report an adjusted EPS of $2.22, a 11.2% decrease from $2.50 in the year-ago quarter. The company has surpassed Wall Street's bottom-line estimates in two of the last four quarterly reports while missing on two other occasions. In Q1 2025, PPG exceeded the consensus adjusted EPS estimate by 6.2%.

For fiscal 2025, analysts forecast the paints and coatings company to report an adjusted EPS of $7.89, a marginal increase from $7.87 in fiscal 2024. Additionally, adjusted EPS is expected to increase 7.5% year-over-year to $8.48 in fiscal 2026.

Over the past 52 weeks, shares of PPG Industries have declined 8.6%, underperforming the broader S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 12.6% gain and the Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund's (XLB) marginal dip over the same time frame.

Shares of PPG surged 4.9% following its Q1 2025 results on Apr. 29 due to better-than-expected adjusted EPS of $1.72 and revenue of $3.7 billion, both topping forecasts. Investors were also encouraged by management's reaffirmation of full-year adjusted EPS guidance of $7.75 - $8.05. Strength in the Performance Coatings segment, driven by a 6% volume increase, particularly in aerospace and automotive refinish, helped offset volume declines of 3% in Global Architectural Coatings and 1% in Industrial Coatings.

Analysts' consensus view on PPG Industries stock is cautiously optimistic, with an overall “Moderate Buy” rating. Among 25 analysts covering the stock, nine suggest a "Strong Buy" and 16 recommend a "Hold." As of writing, PPG is trading below the average analyst price target of $128.19.
