As the Pittsburgh Penguins plan for the future, the front office has an interesting balancing act that fans are paying attention too. The team isn’t currently seen as a contender to go after a Stanley Cup title but the roster also has legend Sidney Crosby still on it.
Crosby wants to win, especially before he calls it a career. But with where the Penguins are in their rebuild, it could be tough for Crosby to make the most of his final few years.
This has led to all sorts of trade speculation around the star but so far, nothing has come about. Crosby is a legend in the city of Pittsburgh and if he had his way, he would end his career with the Penguins.
But according to NHL insider Chris Johnston, he isn’t convinced that Crosby will get to do that. Johnston remains skeptical that Crosby will stay with the Penguins for the remainder of his career amid all of the uncertainty with the organization.

If the Penguins did ever trade Crosby, it would be a very sad day in the city of Pittsburgh. Crosby has brought multiple titles to the organization and is generally seen as one of the best players to ever step foot on the ice.
Crosby could net the Penguins some nice future assets, but the backlash from moving him could be tough from the fan base. This is certainly something to keep an eye on, especially with the two sides at odds about how to proceed.
But it seems that at least for now, Crosby will remain with the Penguins. However, these types of situations remain fluid and can change at any time.
