The New England Patriots’ pass rush was a significant weakness in 2024, and the Patriots addressed it in the offseason with several additions. The most notable addition was Harold Landry III, who played under new head coach Mike Vrabel in Tennessee.

However, the outside linebacker opposite Landry could be an under-the-radar player for the Patriots’ pass rush. New England signed K’Lavon Chaisson to a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason.

Chaisson is a former first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, selected 20th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Jaguars, Chaisson played one season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024.

After collecting five sacks across his first four years in the NFL, Chaisson had a career-high five sacks in 2024. He also set career highs with 32 tackles, 7 TFLs, and two passes defended, and he got his first-career interception and forced fumble.

The former first-round pick credited his best year in the league to playing alongside Raiders’ star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Crosby took Chaisson under his wing and helped him develop throughout the 2024 season.

Now with the Patriots, Chaisson looks forward to learning from Vrabel, who played the same position for New England. Chaisson isn’t expected to be a starter right away, but he could make a push for significant playing time with a strong training camp.

Masslive’s Mark Daniel named the former first-rounder an under-the-radar player to watch at Patriots camp.

“After accumulating five total sacks in four seasons, Chaisson made it to the Raiders active roster and made the most of his opportunities. The edge rusher finished with a career-high five sacks in the Raiders final five games,” Daniels wrote. “He has a chance to make a nice impact in Vrabel’s defense as a situational pass rusher. Chaisson wasn’t a marquee free-agent signing this offseason but could make a bigger impact than expected.”

The Patriots’ training camp begins on July 23. Chaisson could be a player to watch who could earn an increased role in 2025 with a strong training camp performance.
