The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job Kung_Fu_Zizou, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, Ezek Ix and yours truly, Valyrian Steel.
I’d like to just note and commend the resiliency of our beloved team for overcoming terrible obstacles. As witnessed in our 2-1 win against sociedad. We still got a second goal with 10 men, that’s impressive, the red card didn’t hinder us and we closed out the game against Sociedad, using an ultra defensive tactic that most La Liga teams have been abusing against us. If not for a penalty, we would’ve kept a clean sheet too. We came out the gate blazing with a goal in less than 3 mins of the match starting. If not for VAR being picky. Sociedad’s keeper deserves a shout-out, what a performance from him, he’s stopped a first half blowout against his team with wondrous saves. If you only focus on the red card and that Lime Clout Chaser, you’d ignore every other good thing we got right.
One of Carlo’s most powerful quotes was when he waxed lyrical of a certain Cristiano. Saying, “With Cristiano, we start the game 1-0”. And Zidane attested to the same too of Cristiano. And now, we can say the same too of Mbappe. Honestly he is answered prayers to our attack. A player that can turn a half a chance into a goal.
Lots of people have been scolding him for that foul, but i stand by Dean. IMO, he did the right thing, only that we all thought he would get a yellow…..until we saw red. In a situation where the opposing player is about to get ahead of a defender by a step, and you’re just behind them, whatever chance you have to stop the play, i’d say a defender is within their rights to make a foul within the bounds of safety as per the rules. The point of the foul was to kill momentum and break play, which it did. Imagine if Dean got outpaced and then Sociedad ends up scoring what would’ve made the match end in a 2-2 draw? we would still scold dean for not stopping the play. I believe that move was pivotal in keeping the game at 2-1. He’s young and he will only get better.
FIRST 4 VICTORIES MATTERS
Keep in mind, we’ve just won the first 4 games of the season, something we’ve struggled to do in recent years. Which has repeatedly caused us to play catch up for the rest of the season with barca and atletico.
Our right side needs to pick up steam. Can’t tell what brahim is doing there.
