TORONTO — Catcher Connor Wong (fractured pinky) is playing in his second rehab game for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. He’s batting second in the WooSox lineup.

Wong began his rehab assignment Sunday.

“He feels slow with his move behind the plate and his timing was off,” manager Alex Cora said before Boston’s game against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. “So there’s no guarantee he’ll be here with us in Toronto.”

The Red Sox play a three-game series here starting tonight. It sounds as though Wong will be activated from the IL during Boston’s six-game homestand (which starts Friday against the Twins) instead of here Wednesday or Thursday.

“We’ll talk a little after the game. He’ll let me know how he feels,” Cora said.

Wong started five of the Red Sox’ first seven games and seven of their first 11 games before fracturing his pinky.

But it’s likely the playing time between Wong and Carlos Narváez will be more even when Wong returns.

Narváez has been above average defensively during Wong’s absence. He ranks in the 100th percentile among major league catchers in blocks above average (5). He’s in the 92nd percentile in framing and 89th percentile in fielding run value.

“Carlos is going to play. He’s going to play,” Cora said. “So we’ll figure out how we’re going to do it. But he’s done an amazing job. Right now he’s the best defensive catcher in the big leagues. He’s putting good at-bats (together). That’s how it works, right? We’re excited to have them both whenever Connor gets here.”

Blake Sabol has backed up Narváez. He will be optioned to Worcester once Wong is ready.
