Tennessee kicks off the 2025 season in less than two weeks as the Vols travel to Atlanta to take on Syracuse.
There’s been plenty of off-season news since Tennessee lost in the College Football Playoffs to Ohio State, but one area where there has been no news is with salaries and contracts for the Vols’ offensive coaching staff, including head coach Josh Heupel.
Defensively, Tennessee announced a new two year deal for Willie Martinez, a two year deal for promoted LEO’s coach Levron Harbin, who was elevated when Mike Ekeler left for Nebraska. The salary was announced for special teams coordinator Evan Crabtree. And Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks received a new three year deal after Banks’ defense put up the best numbers in his Tennessee tenure.
Offensively, nothing has been announced as that side of the ball and all are on expiring contracts, according to the most recent contracts made public. Heupel has not received a raise or an extension this off-season following last year’s 10-win season and trip to the playoffs.
However, that doesn’t mean that contract news isn’t coming, according to athletic director Danny White in his sit down interview with Volquest.
“Generally when attorneys get involved, everything takes longer,” White said. “But couldn’t be more excited about what Josh is doing, his staff making the playoff last year was an awesome step in our program’s development. He’s building it the right way. We have a great culture. We’re excited about this coming season and expect something to be public about those things (contracts) in the short term.
“But our commitment and support of Josh and his staff is unwavering.”
Heupel currently makes 9 million dollars a year on a contract that runs through the 2028 football season.
Heupel will kickoff his fifth season as the Vols’ head man on August 30. Heupel is currently 37-15 with two wins over Alabama and Florida the last three years and two 10+ win seasons.
