NBA Trade Rumors: Lauri Markkanen getting moved this season?

Here and there on the latest Zach Lowe podcast, we get a few different rumors here and there about Lauri Markkanen but on his latest podcast, Lowe had a lot ot say about a potential Markkanen trade. “I think Markkanen gets traded this year” is one of them.

It’s a segment just under ten minutes, and you can hear the whole segment below.

Lowe goes on to mention teams he thinks would be great fits for Markkanen (this is after mentioning he’s talked to a lot of league people about him, so this may be educated guessing, or it could just be his own opinion. As always, it’s probably a bit of both.) The teams are: Detroit, Miami, Portland, and Toronto as the main teams. He then goes on to mention San Antonio and Houston as possible teams, but they’re probably looking for bigger fish. He talks about a potential Sacramento trade that would include Zach LaVine and picks, but talks about that not making a ton of sense. Finally, he mentions two teams as potential three-team partners in Cleveland and Memphis.

What we can take from this is that a Lauri Markkanen trade is very possible this season, maybe even likely. Lowe is as plugged in as anyone, and he wouldn’t talk about this if he wasn’t hearing things. The other thing worth mentioning here is that this makes complete sense for Utah. Yes, they may have hurt their chances, like Lowe mentions, with the bloated contract they gave him, but there are definitely teams out there that will come calling if they feel like it’s a possibility and it’s worth it. The biggest name on the list is the Detroit Pistons who have the potential pieces that could really make a move possible. A combination of Jaden Ivey plus picks could make things really interesting.
