Mock Trade Sends Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns to Suns in 3-Team Deal With Hornets

With the NBA offseason right around the corner, many teams are preparing to upgrade their roster to better their title chances next season.

While that may be the case for some teams, others, like the Phoenix Suns, are trying to retool their roster after putting together a disappointing season.

Of course, the Suns are expected to move on from Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal this summer to rebuild their roster around Devin Booker after they failed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

With this in mind, Sports Illustrated’s Owen O’Connor recently crafted a three-team mock trade that involves the Suns, New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets and sees Phoenix and New York swap Durant and Karl-Anthony Towns.

In the trade, O’Connor has the Suns acquiring Towns, Josh Green, a 2026 first-round pick via Charlotte and two second-round picks from New York.

For the Knicks, they receive Durant and Nick Smith Jr. while the Hornets add Grayson Allen, Miles McBride and a 2025 second-round pick and 2026 first-round pick from the Knicks.

This would truly be a blockbuster trade this summer as the Knicks would move on from Towns after just one season and add Durant next to Jalen Brunson.

The Suns would also retool their roster by finally adding a star center in Towns to their roster as they also replace Allen with Green, who has shown potential during his career in the NBA.

For the Hornets, they would upgrade their roster depth and also add a couple of draft picks as well as they continue their lengthy rebuild.

While this trade may work out well for everyone involved, it is highly unlikely that the Knicks would move on from Towns after just one season in New York but after his struggles in the playoffs, they could elect to do so.

If that does happen and the Suns are able to land him, they would be able to create a new star duo of him and Booker as they try to make the franchise into a contender once again.
