Mistico beats MJF in epic match at CMLL 92nd Anniversary

Mistico defended the honor of lucha libre to defeat MJF at the CMLL 92nd Anniversary (Sept. 19, 2025). It was an epic match with lots of blood, dramatic moments, and a thunderous crowd response to the finish.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman entered the contest with the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship on the line in title versus mask. MJF arrived in Arena Mexico proudly wearing red, white, and blue colors of the USA flag. Jon Cruz was by his side dressed like Abraham Lincoln.

MJF opened with cheap tricks early to attack Mistico during the luchador’s entrance. MJF ripped the mask and bashed Mistico to a bloody pulp. Mistico was gushing blood throughout. As the bout progressed, Mistico sold exhaustion due to blood loss. By the end of the match, the mat was a crimson piece of art.

Mistico dug deep to ignite his fighting spirit for a springboard plancha, a tornillo dive, and a flying crossbody outside. MJF put Mistico in danger on a package piledriver on the apron.

MJF applied the Salt of the Earth armbar, but Mistico countered to escape with a crucifix pin. Back on their feet, and Mistico had momentum for La Mistica armbar. MJF blocked the maneuver to reverse for a tombstone piledriver, which is one of the most dangerous moves in CMLL. Mistico kicked out, and the crowd went wild.

Cruz distracted the referee, and MJF loaded up the Dynamite Diamond Ring punch. Mistico was no dummy. He saw the cheap shot coming, so he dipped down for a low blow to MJF. After dueling for position on the turnbuckles, Mistico executed an avalanche rana. He superkicked Cruz off the apron to prevent any interference. El Rey de Plata y Oro trapped MJF in La Mistica armbar. MJF showed tremendous intestinal fortitude to scoot toward the ropes, however, Mistico rolled the submission back to crank even harder. MJF tapped out in defeat. Mistico defeated the biggest villain on CMLL’s biggest show of the year.
