Largo police discovered that Hayes was going nearly twice the posted speed limit before his Dodge Durango collided with a Kia Soul. Jabari Elijah Solomon, 10, and Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria, 4, were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gail Price, 78, was also killed in the crash while the children’s father, Herbert Riveria, suffered serious injuries. A friend of Herbert Riveria's said that Riveria had suffered broken ribs and a broken sternum.

From WFLA:

Investigators later learned that just moments before the crash, Hayes was rapidly switching lanes and overtaking other vehicles. He abruptly crossed three lanes of traffic without signaling and collided with the Kia Soul, which was making a lawful left turn onto Orange View Drive.

A search warrant was executed on Hayes’ vehicle, and police confirmed Hayes was traveling 70 mph five seconds before the crash and had accelerated up to 78 mph in a 40 mph zone at the time of the crash.

Hayes is a native of Largo and played in 12 games as a true freshman in 2024. He had four tackles and an interception. He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 and was the No. 9 player in the state of Florida.
