Marlins' Agustin Ramirez Turns With Start of MLB Career After Call Up

The Miami Marlins have begun their season with a much better look than what fans saw from the ball club last year.

At this time last year, Miami had one of the worst starts to its season in franchise history with a record of 6-21 in the Marlins' first 27 games.

Now, in 2025, Miami has a record of 12-15, doubling their win total from last year's nightmare of a start and has shown a lot more hope this season.

It's been a crazy process in the past year, as Jesus Sanchez is the only player who started for the Miami Marlins in both this season's 27th game and 2024's 27th game.

Agustin Ramirez's insane start to his debut season

One of the Marlins' most impactful differences from last season and this season is catcher Agustin Ramirez.

Ramirez was acquired in the trade between Miami and the New York Yankees when the Marlins traded away franchise star Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Miami called up Ramirez from Triple-A Jacksonville on April 21, and he's been the hottest hitter in all of baseball.

In Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Mariners, Ramirez recorded his first multi-home run game of his career.

Not just in today's game, but Ramirez has been electric in his first five games of his career, having a batting average of .474, .524 OBP, 1.158 SLG and a 1.682 OPS.

Although it's unlikely Ramierz will maintain these averages, he has picked up nine hits in 19 at-bats, with three home runs, five RBIs and one stolen base.

Two of his most impressive games came in today's loss, when he had two hits – both home runs – and on April 22, when he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Could we be seeing the emergence of one of the best hitting catchers in the league?
