BISMARCK — The best track and field athletes from around the state put their talents on display over the three days of the 2025 NDHSAA Class A and B State Meet wrapping up on Saturday, May 24, at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
One of the local athletes who found herself atop the podium was LaMoure/Litchville-Marion’s Norah DelaBarre who threw the discus 151 feet, 10 inches to get the win and set a new personal best. DelaBarre’s throw also broke former Bottineau thrower Sara Neubauer’s record of 148 feet, 8 inches, set in 2006. On the boys’ side, New Rockford-Sheyenne’s Porter Granger won the long jump finals with a leap of 22 feet, 4.5 inches.
The Thorson family’s domination in the hurdles events continued this year as Tallen won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles races for the second consecutive year. When combined with his older brother Madden, the Harvey/Wells County duo has now won the two races, four times since 2022.
Carrington’s Ryder Bickett threw the javelin 211 feet, 11 inches to claim the top spot in the field. It also broke the state record for longest javelin throw set back in 2004. Bickett’s distance is the third furthest javelin throw in the entire United States among high school boys this season. The girls’ pole vault competition was won by Oakes’ Lexi Harris who cleared the bar at 10 feet, 6 inches to set a new personal best.
The long jump competition was tight with one inch making the difference between first and second place. New Rockford Sheyenne’s Porter Granger landed into the sandpit at 22 feet, 4.5 inches, just ahead of Kindred’s Prsley Peraza who came in at 22 feet, 3.5 inches.
The highest finishing Class B region boys’ squad was Harvey/Wells County who finished in fifth with 32 points, one point ahead of LaMoure/Litchville-Marion in sixth. The highest finishing Class B region girls’ squad was also the Hornets who finished in a two-way tie for 11th with 24 points alongside Rugby.
