HAVRE — The Kalispell A Lakers lost on a game-winning double 3-2 in game one before another late rally in game two led to the Havre Northstars picking up a home doubleheader sweep in American Legion baseball on Sunday.
In a pitcher's duel in the doubleheader opener, George Schwan went six innings for the Lakers (1-3-1), allowing one hit and no earned runs, but left the game down 2-1. Down to their final out, Dillon Wink laced a game-tying RBI single, scoring Ethan Kim to tie the game.
Beau McEwen came in for relief of Schwan in the seventh inning and surrendered three hits, including Tyson Brandon’s walk off double to win the game.
Quinn Elliot earned the win for Havre (2-0), after pitching three innings in relief allowing one earned run, striking out five. Tanner Delarosa started the game and no-hit the Lakers for four innings with two walks and fanned 11. Kalispell struck out 16 times as a team.
Havre 6, Kalispell 5
In game two the Lakers took a 5-1 lead into the fourth inning before Havre scored three runs to pull withing one and added two more in the sixth for another late-game win.
Down 5-4 in the bottom half of the sixth inning, the first three batters singled for Havre with Delarosa’s 2-run single giving the Northstars the lead for the first time since the first inning.
Jake Hale led the Lakers with two hits and a run scored and Schwan added a hit and two runs. Max Schara took the bump for Kalispell, lasting four innings allowing two hits and two earned runs. Wink added an RBI.
Wyatt Sharp was credited with the loss after giving up three hits and two earned runs across two innings. Three different Northstars pitchers combined to allow three hits and 10 strikeouts to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Fort Macleod 15, Libby 8
LIBBY — After winning the first of four games against Fort Macleod, the Royals stormed back to win the next three, concluding with Sunday’s doubleheader.
In game one, Libby’s pitchers struggled to throw strikes, walking 15 batters, allowed six hits and 13 earned runs. The Loggers held a 7-4 lead heading into the fifth inning before the Royals responded with 11 unanswered runs over the final three frames to pull away.
Libby (1-4) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first inning — three runs came around to score on an error before Elijah Foulke singled home a run. They loaded the bases in the fourth inning and scored three runs without recording a hit.
The Royals (3-1) immediately responded with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Zak Wright’s double that drove in two. Young Pine, Kaden Lee and Wright knocked in two runs each, Cashe Kropinak added two hits.
Fort Macleod 15, Libby 11
A seven-run fourth inning was the difference in game two as both teams put up double-digit runs and scored in every inning.
The Royals took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning before Libby responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three on errors and the fourth run on Ian Thom’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Neither team generated much offensive firepower — Fort Macleod was held to four hits, Libby three as patience at the plate was the difference in the game. Five different Loggers pitchers combined to walk 19 batters, compared to the Royals' nine.
Boe Miles hit a double, walked three times and scored twice for Libby. Aidan Rose hit a triple, walked twice and crossed the plate three times out of the leadoff spot.
