The 2025 Kentucky high school football season is here heading into the second week and there’s already been a slew of games that impact the Top 25 rankings.
The Trinity Shamrocks have continued to have a stronghold at the top spot after picking up an impressive win over one of Indiana’s top teams in Carmel last week. Who else makes the cut in this week’s rankings?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest Kentucky high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 16.
1. Trinity Shamrocks
The Trinity Shamrocks (3-1) remain the top football team out of the Bluegrass State after notching a 41-28 victory over Carmel (Ind.) last week coming off a loss to Archbishop Moeller (Ohio).
The Shamrocks will aim for rare three-peat in 2025, which they have opened the season with some dominant performances, including a 63-0 rout of Pleasure Ridge Park and a 37-0 blowout of Frederick Douglass.
They will need players like quarterback Zane Johnson, running back Jamaurion Berry and wide receiver Sekou Kamara to fuel what is one of Kentucky’s most potent offenses. Next test for the Shamrocks upcoming is a meeting with one of the winningest programs in the country in Louisville Male, the No. 18 ranked team in Kentucky.
2. Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions
The Centurions (4-0) had last week soared to the No. 3 spot after winning three straight blowout victories, including the previous two weeks over Lexington Christian Academy and Owensboro, respectively.
They added another impressive win to the growing list with a thrilling 34-27 decision over Ryle.
Christian Academy of Louisville has been one of the more dominant teams in the state as they feature a loaded roster, led by four-star sophomore defensive lineman Kellan Hall. The Centurions also have talents like senior defensive back Stone Perkins (Ball State commit) and linebacker Chapman Russell on defense.
3. St. Xavier Tigers
St. Xavier (3-0) looked solid right out of the gates to kickoff the 2025 season with a 38-7 win over Owensboro. The Tigers have since then had a bye week before pulling off dominant victories over Bowling Green and Louisville Male, respectively.
The Tigers have received strong production out of running back Jordan Senior and wide receiver Jake Washington so far this season. Next up for the Tigers is a matchup against undefeated Elder this Friday night.
4. Highlands Bluebirds
Despite suffering a narrow 21-20 loss to Boyle County last week, Highlands (3-1) remains in the Top 5 of the latest Kentucky high school football rankings this week.
Last time the Bluebirds’ took the field before the start of the 2025 campaign was a 61-23 loss to Cooper in the Kentucky high school football KHSAA Class 5A semifinals. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak and ended their quest for a state championship, which they last won in 2014.
Through four games, Highlands’ offense has been humming under the controls of quarterback Mario Litmer, who has completed 65 of 104 passes for 769 yards and six touchdowns. The Bluebirds next test is this Friday night against Ryle.
5. South Warren Spartans
One of the top offenses in the state of Kentucky has been that of the Spartans, who are off to a sizzling 4-0 start behind the play of junior signal caller Camden Paige.
Paige through four games has completed 67 of 95 passes for 936 yards and nine touchdowns. The aforementioned quarterback has been aided by a stout ground game that features a stable of running backs, including Kayden York (275 yards, six touchdowns) and Jamir Boards (181 yards, two touchdowns).
