John Textor’s RWDM bring back historic club Daring Brussels with rebrand

RWDM, which stood for Racing White daring Molenbeek, have undergone a rebrand. From the 2025/2026 season onwards, they will be known as Daring Brussels. The club is rebranding to bring back one of the historic clubs from Belgium’s past.

The original Daring Club de Bruxelles was founded in 1895 and possessed martricle number 2, which recognised them as the second oldest club in Belgium. This is not to say that there were not clubs present before Daring Club existed. The side were successful prior to the second world war, winning the 1911/1912 titles, as well as two more in 1913/1914 and 1920/1921. The clubs final success came in back to back championship victories, winning their fourth title in 1935/1936 and their fifth the following year.

The club was part of a merger later in 1950 with Royal Racing White and by 1973 they had become RWDM. The merger side did not have as much success as Daring prior to WW2, but did manage to win one title in 1974/1975.

Now, 130 years after it was created, Daring Club is back on the Belgian scene. RWDM, owned by John Textor and part of the Eagle Football Group, currently play in the Belgian second tier following relegation at the end of the 2023/2024 season. They will go into the Challenger Pro League season with a new name and a new crest, with the original date of 1895 on the logo.

In some ways this is a nice way of reintroducing historic clubs from the past and a nod to the nations history. On the other hand, it also moves the side away from affiliating itself with the Molenbeek region of Brussels.
