I love getting an inside look at celebrities' homes, seeing what they've done with their seemingly unlimited income to bring a space to life. Some are glamorous, others admittedly garish, and still others understated and cool. I recently watched Jennifer Garner's Los Angeles home tour for Architectural Digest, and it falls in the latter category. It's so effortlessly elegant — I want to move in.
Garner worked with famed architect Steve Giannetti and designer Brooke Giannetti to build her dream farm-style home and enlisted designer Laura Putnam to decorate. One thing that stands out? Her use of the color blue. She has a light blue velvet sofa, blue dining chairs, a deep blue TV room and more. It gives the space a refreshingly cool, calm, cozy feel without looking too matchy-matchy or feeling stuffy.
If you want to try the trend, you can add blue accents to any space in your home — or if you're redecorating, use Garner's color palette as a starting point. Take a look at some of my favorite true-blue finds for inspiration.
Throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to add color to a room. Plus, they're low-commitment — if you change your mind and hate the color within a year, you can always change the covers. This affordable bolster, though? It comes in a rich blue that feels timeless.
Boucle is a texture you can use to add a little more tactile interest to any room, and these pillow covers incorporate the fabric in light blue. Toss them on your sofa, an accent chair, a bench or wherever else you want a calm, classy touch. If you want a deeper shade, they come in a range of blues (and other hues).
While this candle will look pretty in any room, you'll love the way it smells too. The scent features notes of sea salt, vanilla and teakwood.
In the past, Kathy Hilton has shared that she's a fan of the fragrance, telling The Strategist, "It's the perfect fresh scent for summer."
Add an accent chair to any bare corner in this soft, soothing blue. Whether it collects your clean laundry (guilty) or you actually sit in it, it will look great in any room. Plus, you have to admit that it looks so much more expensive than it is.
Curtains are another easy way to incorporate a new color into a room. These faux suede stunners come in three lengths. Plus, they're light-blocking and thick enough to keep in warm or cool air, depending on the season.
Mark & Graham (owned by Williams-Sonoma) is a top spot for custom goods, including charming home decor staples like this ruffled vase. Order it for the calming color, but customize it with an initial or monogram for a personal touch.
You know how some throw blankets look pretty, but aren't exactly cozy? Well, you don't have to worry about that here. This boucle throw is one you'll want to drape over the arm of a chair and wrap up in on the couch.
This ottoman will look good in any number of places: in your living room, at the end of a bed or near the front door as a spot to put on shoes. It's elegant, thanks to its tufted cushion and gold legs. And it's a decent size at 24 inches wide.
Whether you're looking for a stylish side table or a TV tray for eating dinner in front of the screen, grab this functional piece. It folds up when you're not using it (great for small spaces!) and comes in this rich, soothing blue.
Let these breathable sheets peek out from under your duvet for a subtle pop of blue, or go monochromatic and get a comforter to match. These sheets are made from a crisp percale cotton that won't give you the night sweats.
You may know Quince for its quality, reasonably priced clothing, but check out its home section, and you'll find some more gems, including rugs. This hand-tufted, 100% wool rug is available for a lower price than you'd find for something similar at big-brand home stores.
Leave it to Anthropologie to give us this stylish, crush-worthy velvet accent chair. It has a sturdy pine frame and down-blend cushions. I especially love that the cushions are removable, should you want to fluff them up or spot clean them. It also comes in one piece — no assembly required for the DIY-challenged among us.
West Elm sofas are not only comfy, but ultra-customizable — you can order them in a wide range of fabrics and colors. Try out blue velvet à la Jennifer Garner or stick with a neutral hue and add some blue throw pillows if that's more your style.
Your decor doesn't have to be solid blue, either. Try a rug with hints of blue in it. This traditional stunner, found at Revival, is labeled as a "Slim Easy Care Rug," meaning that as long as you vacuum and spot clean as needed, it really doesn't need much to stay looking new.
