Hamas, ISIS and Al-Qaeda: Indictment filed against alleged terror-supporter in northern Israel

The suspect was reported to police after his social media account posted a statement from Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida.

Israel Police filed an indictment against a 65-year-old resident of Tuba-Zangaria on suspicion of incitement to terrorism and identification with three different terrorist organizations.

The man allegedly made posts on social media in support of Hamas, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda.

The suspect was reported to police after his social media account posted a statement from Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida, which read: "The Islamic nation will not rise and will not have a standing among the nations until this sacred land is purified from the defilement of the occupiers."

The Northern District Prosecutor's Office, represented by Attorney Mai Saker, filed an indictment on Monday in the Kiryat Shmona Magistrate's Court against the defendant on charges of incitement to terrorism, identification with a terrorist organization, and weapons offences.

ISIS support in Israel

Previously, police in May arrested three Arab-Israelis from Arara, near Haifa, for pledging allegiance to ISIS and for planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Israel.

Two adults and one minor were apprehended on suspicion of planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Israel in the name of ISIS. Per the indictment, the minor had begun to express interest in the Islamic State four to five years prior to the arrest.
